A National Research Center in the South of France required installation of an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) equipment that required days of preparation for the vacuum and experiments. On site tasks included setup and running experiments and included playing boules during pumping brakes and socializing during Pastis hours. The experiments worked out very well and the customer was satisfied with the performance of the tool.
A University customer required to see all possible operating modes, not just the ones he actually used. A pro-active strategy of offering to stay as long as needed and running whatever experiment the customer wants to conduct, the customer relaxed after the most important experiments were successful and in the end was okay to drop some of the less important requirements.
During installation and sign off tests, the buying customer was not present, but some colleagues. They were not informed that some new option to the tool would be only available later. After some negotiations, it was agreed to split the user acceptance tests into 2 parts, releasing some funds right away and the rest later.
